Curriculum – Music

Welcome to our Music page.

Our school aims to inspire all children to develop a life-long love of music. Through a high quality, fun and engaging music curriculum, whole school values and a whole child approach, we aim to nurture creative, confident children who will strive to reach their full musical potential. We listen to our children wants and needs and provide them with a range of musical experiences that welcomes self-expression and imagination. We believe all children should be given the skills and mindset to leave primary school able to be successful in their musical experiences at secondary school and beyond. We are passionate about educating both our children and families to develop a greater understanding of how to benefit from the joys of music in aiding healthy minds and positive well-being. We do this by having strong links with our local music hub and collaborating in projects within our community.

MUSIC AT BOWBURN PRIMARY

Music is a valued and integral part of our curriculum. We believe that music allows children to express themselves and fosters enjoyment and creativity. We receive valuable music input from Durham Music Service throughout the academic year, which enhances the children’s learning and enjoyment of music.  In addition, we have Rock Steady who have a number of garage bands which the children love!  Alongside this, the school follows the GetSet4 music scheme, which encourages the children to focus on listening and appraising a variety of styles of music. They are also are encouraged to compose and perform both vocal and instrumental pieces.

Children have the opportunity to showcase their learning through concerts and performances, as well as sharing their achievements with the local community, such as singing Christmas songs. Reception and KS1 perform a yearly Nativity and Year 6 host an impressive musical production at the end of the year, as a leavers’ celebration, developing and showcasing their performance skills.

Our Music Lead is Mrs Mavin
