May 2022: Official School Opening Day.
The day finally arrived for our official school opening ! Various guests came along , including representatives from those involved in the design and build- Esh Construction, Ryder Architects, Faithful and Gould and Durham County Council . The school was officially opened by Cllr., Ted Henderson who unveiled a plaque which has been hung in the school entrance along with the plaques from the Infants and Nursery School and Junior Schools. Children from Y2 and Y3 performed dances and songs for our official guests, which was very exciting !
New school build – the journey.
January 2020:
Esh Construction have been awarded the contract to build the new school. School staff have been introduced to team, and they will shortly visit school to meet the children.
Work on the access road and ground works will start in February 2020 on the field at the junior site. We are very excited that after a long delay, work on the new school is due to begin soon !
February 2020:
Work began on the site during half term, and turf cutting event took place in early March . There were alot of people in attendance but perhaps the children were the most excited! Cllr. Ollwyn Gunn spoke to staff, governors and pupils and we went to see what was happening on the field. At last ! Work has started !
March 2020:
With the arrival of lockdown we were worried work would stop again ( oh no !) However , the ground work continued on schedule, thank goodness!
May 2020:
The first of the steel structure went up at the start of May, which means we can begin to see the outline of the school more clearly. Mr Soler took these photos.
August 2020:
The school building is still on schedule and work is coming along nicely. The upper storey has a roof, the lift and stairs have been added. The car parking areas have been tarmaced and walls/ insulation are being added. Mrs Glass, Miss Noble and Mr Soler have agreed the colour schemes , furniture and ICT.
Head over to our FaceBook page to see photos of the new school building !
October 2020:
The ‘Topping Out’ ceremony took place on Thursday 1st October , which means our school has a roof and is watertight ! It was very exciting to see how the building is coming along. There are new floors , window frames and the glass is arriving very soon. The brick laying work has started, and internal walls mean that the rooms are starting to take shape inside. The school is still on track to open after Easter 2021. Hopefully next time we can take some children up to se the construction.
Easter 2021
Everyone moved into the school at long last ! Staff had one week to move , unpack and set up before the school opened to all pupils on Monday 19th April 2021.
