Consulting with our SEN Pupils, Parents & Carers

Consultation with Children and Young People with SEND

Teachers/SENCO and Support Staff will work with children and young people to identify the support needed to meet agreed outcomes.  The provision is planned and interventions are allocated to individual needs. The children take an active role with setting their outcomes and discussing them with the class teacher/SENCO.

The children have regular meetings with staff to discuss their progress and support.  Pupils are consulted and kept informed of the provision and interventions they are entitled to, with regular pupil feedback given on which activities they feel are working and why etc. During review meetings, pupils are given the opportunity to provide valuable input regarding the things that matter most to them.

Consultation with parents and carers of children and young people with SEND

We are committed to working with parents and carers to identify their child’s needs and support.  Parents and carers will be involved throughout the process.

There is a range of ways this can be done, for example:

  • Parents/ carer ‘Open Days’;
  • Ongoing discussions with a class teacher and/or SENCO;
  • From direct input to SEND processes e.g.  completion of ‘My Story’
  • An ‘open-door’ policy, where parents and carers are welcome to come into school to discuss any concerns they may have;
  • Through a review of a child’s SEN Support Plan or the Annual Review of their Statement of SEN or EHC Plan.
  • By regular written contact and communication via the child’s organiser or by use of a ‘Home /School Diary’
  • Through contact on Class DoJo

Parents are regularly asked to give feedback on their child’s progression and where they feel more could be done. School involves parents at all opportunities when referring children for diagnoses and welcomes additional information that other professional bodies may find useful.

If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
